FIRM HISTORY

Michael R. Bell & Company, PLLC is one of the fastest growing health care accounting and management consulting practices in the Western United States . Mike Bell began developing the existing health care practice in August 1990 as manager-in-charge of Pannell Kerr Forster - Worldwide's health care practice in Spokane . At that time, the health care practice consisted of 2 hospitals and 1 nursing home. In less than a year, the practice grew to 12 hospitals and 3 nursing homes and many other types of health care providers.

Beginning in June 1991, Mike Bell and staff of the health care department left Pannell Kerr Forster to establish Michael R. Bell & Company, a certified public accounting firm dedicated to providing services exclusively to health care organizations. With the creation of the new firm, all of the existing Pannell Kerr Forster hospitals and nursing home health care clients expressed a desire to continue to be served by the new firm.

Today, the firm regularly provides accounting and consulting services to over 35 rural and urban hospitals, 10 free-standing and hospital-based nursing homes, 15 free-standing and hospital-based home health agencies, 60 free-standing and hospital-based rural health clinics, and regularly consults and provides input to federal regulators and legislators in five states.

Managing shareholder Mike Bell has been involved in the health care industry for more than 20 years and has become one of the innovative leaders in financial consulting and accounting in the Western United States .

Our professional staff has provided a full range of services to various types of health care organizations for more than 16 years. These services include auditing, accounting, preparation of feasibility studies, preparation of annual budget projections, Medicare and Medicaid cost report preparation, operational audits, rate reviews, and numerous other financial management advisory services.

As a leader in the industry, our firm keeps abreast of the trends and provides our clients with up-to-the-minute information and tools to make their operations run smoothly and effectively.

Because of our in-depth experience, we aide numerous health care providers with the modification of their operations to cope with new reimbursement methodologies and other health care industry changes. Our staff assisted hospitals when they first became involved with DRG and CAH-based reimbursement by working closely with them to revise financial and management reporting systems, to educate personnel responsible for working with the system, and to respond to the changes and refinements in the system as they developed.

Members of our professional staff have served on the Health Care Committee of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants to plan educational programs for other certified public accountants.

We have provided staff to the Washington State Board of Certified Public Accountants to review health care financial statements as part of their state-wide quality review program.
